      • Project: Extrapolation of Maryland Child Support Table
      • Client: Stuart Rehr, GVA Architecture Interior Design
      • Consultants: Dr. Gobbert and Alen Agheksanterian
      • Description: Extended Maryland’s basic child-support table by extrapolating past the end of the original table.

 

      • Project: Validation of Drug Testing Software
      • Client: John Shatley, Constellation Energy
      • Consultants: Dr. Gobbert, Dr. Neerchal, Alen Agheksanterian, and Willy Weng
      • Description: Validated the statistical properties of software used in the selection of subjects for drug testing.

 

      • Project: Statistical Input for the Thrombotic RIsk Progression (TRIP) Study
      • Client: Udaya S. Tantry, Sinai Center for Thrombosis Research, Baltimore, Maryland
      • Consultants: Dr. Neerchal, Justin Newcomer, and Willy Weng
      • Description: Provided statistical input for the TRIP study in response to reviewer’s comments.

 

      • Project: Assistance with Data Management and Organization
      • Client: Joan Shin and JoAnn Crandall, Department of Language, Literacy and Culture, UMBC and Ana Oskoz, Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics, UMBC
      • Consultants: Dr. Neerchal, Justin Newcomer, and Willy Weng
      • Description: Provided input on data management and organization techniques for handling survey and experimental data. Helped organize and inputted data in a format suitable for a statistical software package.

 

      • Project: Development of an Age-Structured Model of Epidemic Cholera
      • Client: David Hartley, Georgetown University, and Holly Gaff, Old Dominion University
      • Consultants: Dr. Gobbert and Alen Agheksanterian
      • Description: On-going research on developing an age structured model for spread of epidemic cholera. The latest developments were summarized in a technical report.

 

      • Project: Statistical Analysis of Larval Feeding Plasticity
      • Client: Will Gretes and Dr. Jeffery Leips, Department of Biological Sciences, UMBC
      • Consultants: Dr. Neerchal and Justin Newcomer
      • Description: Analyzed repeated measurements of larval feeding plasticity using Generalized Estimating Equations. Presented results at the UMBC-Wyeth Summit, August 24, 2007.

 

      • Project: Statistical Input on Regression Model Selection
      • Client: Niraj P.E. George, Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, UMBC
      • Consultants: Dr. Neerchal and Justin Newcomer
      • Description: Provided statistical input on regression model selection and interpretation to determine whether a linear or quadratic model was appropriate. Also provided the client with help on the use of SAS for model building and fitting.

 

      • Project: Analysis of Pre-Freeze versus Post-Thaw Cell Activities
      • Client: Timothy Moeller, Celsis In-Vitro Technologies
      • Consultants: Dr. Neerchal and Willy Weng
      • Description: Analyzed data regarding pre-freeze and post-thaw liver cell activities. The analysis consisted of testing differences between the two groups.

 

    • Project: Analysis of Usage Trend with Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) Usage Data
    • Client: Dr. Herbert Lacayo Jr., Ph.D. and Steve Witkin, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
    • Consultants: Dr. Neerchal and Willy Weng
    • Description: Analyzed TRI usage data throughout the United States to see if patterns existed in people using the TRI search engine.

Other Activities

  • CIRC facilitated weekly hands-on software workshops during the semester in cooperation with the UMBC Office of Information Technology on a range of mathematical and statistics software packages of wide interest, including Matlab, SAS, Mathematica, SPSS, Maple, MPI, and Microsoft Access (Justin Newcomer, Shiming Yang, Willy Weng, Alen Agheksanterian, Gaurav Sharma, Jia Liu, and Dr. Gobbert)
  • Updated and extended the Maple tutorial and facilitated hands-on workshop (Gaurav Sharma, Jia Liu, and Dr. Gobbert)
  • Taught Matlab workshops for REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) on mathematical biology, specially designed for client to focus on Numerical ODEs (Summer 2007, Alen Agheksanterian)
  • CIRC provided instructor for the class MATH 426 – Introduction to Mathematical Software Packages: Matlab (Fall 2007, Alen Agheksanterian)

Infrastructure

  • Redesigned MATH 426 in tutorial form for the department and completed the development of associated assignments (Summer 2007, Alen Agheksanterian)
  • CIRC moved to the new office in MP 422A after redecorating the space (painting, installing a whiteboard, new filing cabinet)
